"Combine Fire!"

Kayle turned 3 yesterday, and MUCH thought, Reece and I decided that the best thing to get him for his birthday would be farm equipment. He loves tractors and combines, so I spent about an hour picking out a John Deere combine and tractor. It was actually a very extensive process when you're a farmer's wife. You have to make sure it's the right size, the right model number, and has the right attachments. Anyway, after I dropped Kayson off at school, I took Kayle out to the field to help daddy hook the air drill up to the tractor. That made his day! While we were out there, Reece thought that he needed to unwrap his combine. He wanted to see his reaction, and let me tell you Reece wasn't disappointed! With a big grin on his face, Kayle looks at it for awhile, and says, "Grandpa's combine?". We told him that it wasn't Grandpa's, it was his. He drove it around for about 5 minutes, and all of a sudden starts saying, "Combine fire!" "Combine fire!". Those of you who don't know what's going on, this harvest, Marvin's brand new John Deere combine cought on fire, and completely burned up the back of the combine. The combine is still sitting in the field. A couple days later John Deere sent out a loaner combine, and it started a field fire. Well all the kids were there to witness both the fires, and during the first one, Kayle thought Reece and I had died in the fire. We didn't know that until we went into the house for the night, but Mikayla said that he was crying hysterically. When she finally got him to stop crying, he said that we were in the fire. It was so sad. Anyway, the fire had quite an effect on him. Now apparently he relates the combines to fire. Poor kid!
